CITY 1: BORGÅ

 

My computer has been really slow lately, so I decided to go through some old pictures and this made me really nostalgic. I've been living in so many amazing places and when I looked at my photos it made me realize how much I miss all these places. So it thought I would show pictures of all the cities I've lived in and some tips on where to go and what to do if you happen to be in the area. :)

So, lets start with Porvoo (or Borgå in Swedish) where I spent my first year and where I've been spending most of my summers at our summerhouse in the archipelago. It is also the city where my grandma used to live and many other relatives. Here are some pictures from last summer when I visited the city with a friend. :)

//Min dator har varit väldigt trög den senaste tiden, så jag bestämde mig för att gå igenom några gamla bilder, vilket gjorde mig så nostalgisk. Jag har bott på så många underbara ställen och när jag kollade igenom bilderna så slog det mig hur mycket jag saknar all dessa ställen. Så jag tänkte visa lite bilder från alla städer jag någonsin bott i och ge lite tips på vart man ska gå och vad det lönar sig att se i dessa städer. :)

Vi kan börja med Borgå, där jag har spenderat det första året i mitt liv och var jag även har spenderat mesta delen av mina somrar på vårt sommarställe vid kusten. Det är även staden där min mormor bodde och var många andra släktingar fortfarande bor. Här är några bilder från förra sommaren då jag och en kompis besökte staden. :)

  

Places to visit:

1. The beautiful medieval church in the middle of all the colorful wooden houses

2. The very cute and charming Old Town with its many shops and cafeterias

3. The riverside & sea (preferably by boat) with all the boats, cute, old fishing cottages and of course the beautiful islands, beaches and nature :)

And some restaurants worth visiting:
-Haikon kartano, a beautiful, old mansion by the sea
-Johans, which is only open during the summer by the idyllic riverbed
-Timbaali, snailrestaurant in the Old Town
-Porvoon Pahtimo, for a cozy drink on a boat beside the restaurant
-Wanha Laamanni, with a fine view of the river over the roofs of Old Town

The best time to visit Porvoo is probably in the summer, but around Christmas is also a great time to visit this cozy, little city about one hours drive away from Helsinki. And the best thing would of course be to find someone who has a boat and a summerhouse with a sauna by the sea.
